Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange info between a web server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a third party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of controlling an Internet hosting account. The commands that could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, in particular, the options are limited as you'll not have root access to the machine, so you may just create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so on. They're all actions which are performed inside the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall be able to install server-side software or to restart the hosting server or just a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are tons of applications for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote server as well.

SSH Telnet in Shared Web Hosting

When you have a shared web hosting account with our company and you want to deal with your content remotely via SSH, you can get SSH access to the account using your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package deal does not provide this feature by default, you may add it with several clicks through the Upgrades menu. Within the SSH section of the CP, you shall see the host, the port number and the username that you should use when you connect to the account. You can also pick what password you would like to use, considering that it does not have to be the same as the one for your account. We've prepared several Help articles where you can easily find each of the commands that you will be able to use with a shared hosting package, plus examples of how they're used. Furthermore, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you'll be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection by using a standard client such as FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

You shall be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account via SSH no matter which package you select when you sign up. With some packages, the function is provided as standard, and with others, it can be included as an optional upgrade for as long as you need it. You'll find the required login details in the Hepsia CP, provided with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You are able to pick the password that you will use and if you want, you may change it on a regular basis with several clicks for even better security. You'll be able to see all the commands which you can use upfront, since we have listed them all together with examples of how they are used so as to accomplish a specific task. Once SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is activated, you'll be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.
